Julianne Moore letting go of West Village townhouse / towerhouse

Every week I receive a real estate update from Trulia and this week features Julianne Moore and her swanky West Village townhouse.  It is interesting, however, that the basic plan of the house feature great narrow spaces stacked.  Typically this would be referred to as a row house but I am sure that the first row house in the neighborhood resembled a towerhouse.  The towerhouse is the building block for real city making.

Julianne, I am sorry to hear you are getting rid of this house and can only hope that your next residence is as great as the one you are currently selling.  I was pleased to see that even a super star such as your self was living in a towerhouse.

Check out the photos and plan.

Ummm, I think I have some advice for city planners all over the United States.  COPY THIS MODEL THEN DUPLICATE.  I think it could work.  Anyone care enough to comment?

First Draft "The Boxer"

This is my first draft house I have titled "the Boxer".  The name derives from the music that I was playing when designing it.  I was listening to my Pandora station that I created called The Rhythm Of The Saints that features Paul Simon and like minded musicians.  Furthermore, The Boxer by Paul Simon came on the Pandora station when I was finally satisfied with this draft of my housing.

This specific house was a motivation to produce a residence for the sculptor John Lopez, the owner and creator of the John Lopez Studio. http://www.lopez-ranch.com/
The image above is one of John Lopez's sculptures titled Dakotah.  Forgive me if I have spelled the name wrong.

The basic design of the house is a 3 story, greek revival / spanish colonial, inspired building.  I am not even sure if you can put the two together or if maybe the combination of the two makes a whole new genre.  I guess it doesn't much matter it is what John Lopez and I liked.  A lot of the inspiration for the details of the building come from the old homes and buildings you can find in rural South Dakota towns.  Even some of the old farm houses that I have seen from the side of the road when driving from pasture to pasture.
I am hoping to sketch out more ideas like this in the town of Lemmon South Dakota where I will be working with The John Lopez Studio for about a month.  So look for a future with blog articles focusing on urban infill in the small town of Lemmon South Dakota.

Finally Taking The Time To Do It

For a long time now I have bugged my wife with my notebook sketches and ideas for different small housing types.  It seemed that most of my housing types turned into ways to re-populate urban centers and create tiny villages within the urban fabric.  Those housing schemes developed into a series of housing types that I am now going to share with anyone and everyone interested. So keep in touch anyone who is listening and write me with a critique or advice.

Thank You

Sincerely:  Kavan Shane Donohue
